Three things you will not find on most sound healing courses

Research you can stand behind

Every claim on the day is labelled: what research shows, what early studies suggest, what is practice wisdom and what is tradition. The latest research has been considered for this course, and you will always receive the most up to date registered journal findings.

How to use your natural voice with the bowls

A simple four-part method for anyone to use to help you bring your natural voice in with crystal singing bowls: match, harmony, freestyle, return.

An emphasis on rest that stays awake - and why

Attention Restoration Theory shows recovery happens while we are awake. You will learn to keep a room gently awake, and why it matters for the drive home.

The Layout of the Day

Four parts weaving theory then practice

Each part ends with hands-on practice in small groups of three or four, with your own bowl(s)

09:45 to 11:00 - Attention, safety and silence

Attention Restoration Theory, soft and hard fascination, reading a client's arrival state, offering choice, and why the goal is to stay awake.

11:15 to 12:45 - The voice and the lullaby

Finding your natural voice, safe intervals, what the lullaby research shows, why predictable sound matters for pain, and the four-part method in practice.

13:30 to 15:00 - Soft fascination music for pain

How attention and mood shape pain, eight criteria for soft fascination music, and building your own 10-minute piece.

15:15 to 16:45 - Session design and evidence

Why live and 1:1 work still matter, safety, the best times to hold a session, simple outcome measures, honest evidence language, and a closing piece.

By the end of the day you will be able to…

  • Explain how gentle, absorbing sound lets tired attention recover, in plain words for clients.

  • Bring your voice in with crystal singing bowls using a safe, repeatable four-part method.

  • Build a soft fascination piece and adapt it for clients with pain or sound sensitivity.

  • Keep a room gently awake, and bring people back round safely.

  • Record simple outcomes and describe your work without overclaiming.

  • Understand some of the latest research in the area, and how it applies to your work.

For practitioners who want depth and evidence

Sound healers

Add your voice to your bowls with confidence, and explain your work with research behind it.

Therapists and counsellors

Integrate crystal singing bowls into therapy practice safely, alongside the relationship you already hold.

Yoga teachers and holistic therapists

Bring sound into classes and 1:1s with a clear structure and good safety practices in place.

No singing experience needed. The method starts with a quiet hum.

Rebecca Lovatt

Rebecca is a sound healer and singer who works with crystal singing bowls and her natural voice. She created Healing Harmonies to help practitioners find their own voice, and to put a research base under sound work for those working in professional fields.

She is completing a BPS-accredited Masters in Psychology, where she is researching soft fascination music, and brings six years of emotional health research to her teaching. She is the founder of The Humble Warrior.

“I developed this course because I don’t believe highly trained therapists need another year development course and £££ to be able to weave sound into their established or emerging practice. I don’t believe people who are experienced and comfortable space holders be it psychologists, therapists, counsellors, coaches, holistic health practitioners, need a sound therapist training. But they need to understand how to safely, ethically, with an understanding of their scope and limitations, can powerfully integrate sound into their existing practice. Most sound healer or sound therapist courses are heavy on the traditional aspects of sound, with little thought to the research, and that’s a problem in professional fields. The research often challenges the traditions we have come to hold dear, but there is a way of incorporating both, and that’s what I’m bringing together on this course. It may only be 6 hours, but if you’ve ever trained with me before, you’ll know we pack a lot into those hours together…”

Research Articles

Do I need to be a good singer?

No. The method starts with a soft hum matched to your bowl. The aim is a soothing, natural voice, never a performance.

Do I need crystal singing bowls?

Bring one or two bowls you already use. Crystal bowls suit the voice work best, but a metal bowl will work for most of the practice too if you’ve not invested in a crystal one yet.

I'm a counsellor. Can I use this in therapy?

Yes, within your own training and scope. The day covers safety, consent, choice and how to talk about the evidence honestly with clients.

Isn't falling asleep a sign a sound bath worked? Why are you teaching something different?

Many people think falling asleep is a great sign. But the research on attention suggests the restorative work happens while we are awake, and waking from sleep leaves people groggy for up to an hour. We look at both sides on the day.

Is this a sound healing practitioner certificate?

It is a CPD day with a 6-hour certificate. It suits people who already work with sound or with clients, and anyone wanting to deepen their own practice.
