Reflections from the South Node in Astrology
“We heal in the South Node.
But we become in the North Node.”
In Human Design, we talk about transference in our environment.
Caves flee to the Mountains. Markets head to the Valleys. And Kitchens escape to the Shores.
And vice versa. And the reason why this is important, is because these environments are actually being fed by the colours and tones underneath the north and south node placement.
So for example, this is my Human Design chart below…
You can see on my chart that the DESIGN (red) South and North node read 61.1 and 62.1 - if you looked a layer beneath that, what you would see is 61.1.5.2 and 62.1.5.2 - that data is what shows in the arrow and colours/tones to the right of the North/South Node. And it tells you that I’m a Valleys with a Taste environment sense. I can pick up the lingo of a space, area, place with more ease…
They also show you what the correct environment for your soul growth is. For me, it’s Valleys. But I would find comfort in the Marketplace for sometime. Transference. Remember Caves flee to the Mountains. Markets head to the Valleys. And Kitchens escape to the Shores. And vice versa.
So where are you supposed to be pointing?
Your North Node is for SOUL GROWTH. This is a space that will challenge you and keep you on your toes. Keep you interested. Keep you stimulated. Keep you growing. That will also be true of your human design environment type. It might not feel super comfortable all the time, but it will be helpful for growth. Your transferred environment is safe and comforting, but won’t challenge you.
And so your South Node in astrology or Human Design is for HEALING. It’s your comfort blanket. It’s healing. It’s where your natural skills sit. Past life tools and knowledge to bring through to this lifetime.
Your Human Design environment or transferred environment will hold a few clues as to where you’re leaning towards right now.
You can then tie in the Astrology.
Where does your North Node sit in your astrology chart? Where does your South Node sit? Which one are you currently leaning more towards? These will help you understand where you are in your journey right now, and whether you need to lean more into rest and healing, or growth and challenge. You don’t want to always be in one. You might be avoiding the medicine in the other.

My North Node gates are 54 and 61. Themes of drive and determination, and understanding and teaching the mysteries of life.
And my South Node gates see me rely on 53 and 62. Themes of initiating, but reading with the North Node, rarely seeing things through to the end. A continuous cycle of starting and not ending. And with 62 themes of niche topics and clear and precise use of language. A gift to carry through from past lives.
So run your charts and reflect. What do you learn about yourself? That’s the real gift. The reflection and musings.
